The Idaho State Liquor Division was established in 1935 as a means of providing greater control over the distribution, sale, and consumption of alcohol beverages. It is well established by research that the availability of alcohol has substantial effects on alcohol consumption and alcohol problems. Idaho’s system of liquor control provides benefits to all of Idaho’s citizens. Moderation and temperance in control states generally reduce social cost associated with distilled spirits.
The mission of the Idaho State Liquor Division is to provide control over the importation, distribution, sale, and consumption of distilled spirits; curtail intemperate use of beverage alcohol; and responsibly optimize the net revenues to the citizens of Idaho.
